"Mrs. Elizabeth Crockett Last week we chronicled the death of this venerable and most estimable lady. A friend sent us the following particulars, connected with her eventful life. Mrs. Elizabeth Crockett, relict of the Hon. Davy Crockett, died in the 74th year of her age. She was born in Buncombe county, N.C., in May, 1788. Her maiden name was Patton. She was married to Jas Patton, her cousin, and removed with him to Franklin county, Tenn. He was killed fighting for his country, in the celebrated Creek War. By him she had two children. Subsequently she was married to the lamented Crockett, who fell at the Alamo; thus she lost her second husband as her first, in battle --- By her second husband she had three children --- one son and two daughters. Robert P. Crockett, her son, now lives in Johnson county. Rebecca Elvira, her eldest daughter, consort of Rev. Holford, lives also in Johnson county; and Matilda, the youngest, lives in Tennessee. In 1855 she removed from Tennessee to Texas, and settled on lands, the gift of a grateful State to the widow and heirs of Davy Crockett, her heroic defender. It ias a matter of just pride to every citizen of Texas that the widow of Davy Crockett found a home in her old age, and after three score years and ten were fulfilled, a gave on the soil concecrated by his blood--- the gift of the country of his adoption. The gave of his widow and the home of his children will make Johnson county a place of pilgrimage to many. Mrs. Crockett was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and died in the full triump of her holy faith. That she was a woman of many and rare virtues, the writer and many others in Johnson county, her neighbors, can bear witness. A NEIGHBOR AND FRIEND OF THE DECEASED." | Crockett, Matilda (I117600)
