I've researched all Wilsons in the region to some extent in the attempt to discover the family of my ancestor Mrs. David Carpenter. She is a presumed Miss Wilson born ca 1810/15 in Burke Co., NC, died ca 1839 in Yancey Co., NC or in Ashe (now Watauga) Co., NC. My area of interest mainly includes Burke, Yancey, Mitchell, Avery and Watauga Counties, and some of their parent counties such as Buncombe and Ashe.
I am not yet 100% certain Mrs. David Carpenter was a Wilson, but they did name their second son "Wilson Carpenter" so that strongly suggests Wilson ancestry. They were associated with Wilsons as well;

Died - At his home near this place, on February 23rd, Jas R. Wilson, in the 85th year of his age--his birth day. he died triumphtly (sic), in full faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. His death was in perfect ease like a child falling asleep. He closed own eyes and mouth, and crossing hands upon his breast queitly (sic) passed away. He leaves only an aged wife to mourn his loss, who will soon follow him to that Land of Rest beyond the Leathean River. He is and old resident of this county, and has been a strict member of the church more than sixty years.

However, Edward named his son John in in 1859 Will and didn't mention him being deceased. He didn't make him one of the Executors though, but that could only be because he was out of state at the time;


!NOTES:There is a John Gilbert Wilson (c1795 SC) in 1850 Warren Co., TN, wife Rebecca 49 NC. The name, age and birthdate are great matches. Oldest son is Edward C. Is this Edward's son John? The only problem with it is that John G. of Warren TN was still there in 1870 with wife Rebecca, whereas our John was back in NC in 1860 with wife Cecelia.

She is a presumed Miss Wilson born ca 1810/15 in Burke Co., NC, died ca 1839 in Yancey Co., NC or in Ashe (now Watauga) Co., NC. My area of interest mainly includes Burke, Yancey, Mitchell, Avery and Watauga Counties, and some of their parent counties such as Buncombe and Ashe.
I am not yet 100% certain Mrs. David Carpenter was a Wilson, but they did name their second son "Wilson Carpenter" so that strongly suggests Wilson ancestry. They were associated with Wilsons as well;

!NOTES:What is the proof of Elijah being a son of George & Elizabeth? I did find an Elijah in Yancey getting land grants in 1835 with Jesse Wilson and William Wilson chain bearers. That seems to be the one in Cherokee NC in 1850, Polk TN in 1860, MO in 1870. He was born ca 1817. He lived in close proximity to Jesse's family;
