- We can remove John of Cabarrus, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Rowan and one in Surry for being too old.
That leaves these potential matches:

- We can remove John of Rockingham because he was still in Rockingham in 1810. Likewise, we can remove John of Richmond for the same reason. That leaves two in Surry to consider. Only one of those was still in Surry in 1810, seeminly the one from page 691 judging by his 1810 household. Does that mean that John of page 613 is our 1810 Haywood John? Maybe, but this does not prove it's the same person. He does have chldren born ca 1790/1800 so that fits our John of Haywood, but he has more in 1800 than our John had in 1810, so that makes it less likely to be the same person.

- There are two other John Stewarts to consider. Both were in "Upper west" SC.

- Of those, John of Pendleton is too old.
- John of Greenville is a really good fit though, age-wise. He has 1 boy under 10 and two girls under 10. That works with our John of 1810 Haywood, though ours only had one girl in the equivalent age group in 1810. One cold have died, or been listed in the next column if born on the cusp. Furthermore, John of 1800 Greenville was no longer there in 1810. That means he could have moved to Haywood Co., NC by 1810.

- If, and this is a big if, John of 1800 Greenville is the same man as John of 1810 Haywood, can we conclude that he's probably *not* the son of our John and Mary Ann? I'd say so, because John of 1800 Greenville is next door to a William Stewart Senr (age 45+) and a few houses from Alexander and Joseph Stewart, both in the same age grouping as John. From proximity alone, I'd say John, Alexander and Joseph were sons of William.

- More research is needed to determine if John of 1810 Haywood is a son of our John and Mary Ann, and also what became of him after 1810; 		Stewart, John (I16295)

!NOTES:James is a proven son of Osborne Lane as named in Osborne's 1840 estate records. Sellers also listed him as a son. He called him James *C.* Lane (Sr), though I've seen no official record that he had a middle name or initial*. He did have a son named James C. Lane.
* An 1845 deed (see below) refers to him several times as "James Lane" but other times as "J. W. Lane". However, two other parties to the deed were Josiah W. Moody and James W. Bass, so perhaps giving him a "W" initial was an error. He signed as James Lane Senr, no initial listed.;

14 Sep 1847 James Haselden Exec of Will of James G. Crawford, shows that about 1840 Daniel Platt late of Marion Dist., died intestate leaving his widow Mary Platt and among others the following minor children of himself and Mary Platt: Mary Jane Platt, George W. Platt, Catherine Platt, Charlotte Platt, Sarah Platt, and Eliza Platt.
James Lane, Mary's father, and James G. Crawford orator's testator, were sureties for her bond. Mary Platt has remarried Josiah W.Moody who by said marriage became possessed of five negroes, the property of Mary, and her lands. James G. Crawford died June 1846 leaving the orator as sole exec.

Osborne Lane married a Miss Crawford, a sister of old James Crawford, of Spring Branch-I suppose, older than her brother. The Crawfords were quite respectable in that day and have continued to be so down to the present time. The fruits of the marriage, as known, were eight sons, John, Thomas, Alexander, James, Robert, David, Stephen and William, and two daughters, Kesiah and Elizabeth.

James C. Lane, I think, the youngest son of old Osborne, was a most excellent man and a good citizen ; he married a Miss Lee, daughter of old John Lee, on the north side of Buck Swamp, and settled on Catfish, just opposite Latta ; he had and raised four sons, James C, Jr., Crawford, John O. and Stephen L. Lane, and four daughters, Hapsey, Sarah Anne, Orphea and Priscilla. Of the sons, James C, Jr., married a daughter of old William Bryant, a sister of the late John M. Bryant; he had and raised one son, David, and one daughter. The son married some one to the writer unknown ; he has a large family of sons and daughters, several grown; he lives in Kirby Township. The daughter married Peter McLellan, and had several children ; Peter and she (Rebecca, I think, was her name), are both dead; don't know what has become of the children suppose they are all grown. Crawford Lane, second son of James C, Sr., married a Miss Perritt, daughter of David Perritt, and settled down on the Maiden Down and Ten Mile Bays ; he raised a large family of sons and daughters ; the names of two sons only are knowner of John M. Bryant, and has several sons, two of whom are married, and several daughters, some grown. James Lane, son of Crawford Lane, married a daughter of the late Samuel Campbell, and has a family, how many are not known. Stephen L. Lane, tihe youngest son of James C, Sr., married Miss Flora Campbell, a daughter of the late William S. Campbell ; he was killed in the last battle of the war, just before Johnston's surrender, after having gone through the whole war ; he left his widow. Flora, and several sons and daughters, none of them personally known to the writer ; one son is named William, and one daughter became the second wife of Merideth Watson, There are several other children. Another son of James C. Lane, Sr., was John O. Lane ; he married a Miss Sweat, daughter of old George Sweat ; they had and raised a family, none of them known to the writer both are dead. Of the daughters of James C, Sr., Hapsey married the late James Porter ; they had and raised a large family of sons and daugliters, none of wlhom are known to the writer, except Robert P. Porter, in Marion; he married a Miss Johnson, and has a family of several children, none grown. The second daughter of old James C, St., Sarah Ann, married a Mr. Jones, who either died or left the country, leaving her one child, a daughter n ; Mrs. Jones is long since dead. The third daughter of James C. Lane, St., Orphea, married a Mr. Turbeville; they had and raised a family, and have grand-children, but none of them are known. The youngest daughter of James, Sr., Priscilla, married "Sandy" Norton, who was killed or died in the war ; they had and raised three sons, Woodberry, Houston and Holland Norton, who are now among us and good citizens— especially Houston Norton, of Latta ; there may have been daughtersn to the writer.; 		Lane, James (I149)

However, he did have slaves in 1800, 1830 and 1840, but I found no deeds relating to them either, so perhaps they weren't his own, but managed by him for someone else, or hired out to him.;

Of the sons of old Osborne Lane, it is not known which of the eight was the older— I think, however, John, who was a very old man in 1840 (the year old man Osborne died) . John Lane had but one son, John G. Lane; don't know who his mother was ; John G. Lane married, I think, a Miss Johnson ; they had but one child, a daughter; don't know what became of her; John G. Osborne Lane married a Miss Crawford, a sister of old James Crawford, of Spring Branch-I suppose, older than her brother. The Crawfords were quite respectable in that day and have continued to be so down to the present time. The fruits of the marriage, as known, were eight sons, John, Thomas, Alexander, James, Robert, David, Stephen and William, and two daughters, Kesiah and Elizabeth.
