UNKNOWN SON (2), son of Thomas (1), An old paper, coming from an unknown source, states that the oldest son of the first Thomas removed to South Jersey, where be died, leaving a widow and several children, among- whom were William (8) and Hannah (9). The widow is said to have married, as second husband, Hugh Caldwell, who died in 1745, The present writer has met with no single fact of record that tends to support this claim, and so must regard it as very doubtful indeed. Because, however, it is not in itself improbable, he Includes the Iine-with this word of caution.

!NOTES:
19 Aug 1946 Marvin Alan Grant, called “Alan” by family, “Marvin” by friends, was born in Topton, Cherokee County, North Carolina to Garland Samuel GRANT and Luella GEORGE Grant. Born in Charles Noten GEORGE’s house in Topton, just off of Old North Carolina 10. Family resided in Graham County at the time just a few miles up the road.
20 Oct 1946 Alice Faye Campbell, called “Faye” was born in Mullins Hospital, Mullins, Marion County, South Carolina to Alva Gabriel CAMPBELL and Gertrude TURNER Campbell. Family resided in the town of Mullins at the time.
1964 Daddy and Mama graduated Mullins High School, Mullins, Marion County, SC. Resided at 120 E. James Street, Mullins.
26 Nov 1964 Marvin Alan Grant married Alice Faye CAMPBELL, Mullins Church of God, Mullins, Marion County, South Carolina.

1964-1965 Resided at 419 1/2 Park Street, Mullins. Worked at Burlington Industries, Selma Hosiery Mill, Dillon, Dillon County, South Carolina.

Nov/Dec 1965 Had accident on wet road, flipped car near Dillon. Woke up in Dillon Hospital. Car was totaled. Alan was not seriously injured. Granddaddy, Garland Samuel Grant (Sr) drove down from Grundy, Virginia and took us to where he lived.

1965-1966 Resided Crystal Block Mining Camp, near Grundy, Buchanan County, Virginia. Worked for Pepsi-Cola Company driving truck. Quit after one day of driving on icy slippery mountain roads. Had to get my formula water from a spring as tap water was too black (from Coal mines).

Jan 1966 Moved to Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia. Lived in Apartment on Dallas Road belonging to Tom and Bobby (GRANT) Sawyer, Daddy’s Uncle and Aunt. Worked at Michael's Glass Company with Tom Sawyer. One day in Atlanta, scaffolding collapsed under daddy, leaving him hanging 4 stories up. Workers rebuilt scaffolding under him, he was unhurt, but shaken. Daddy quit a short time after Uncle Tom left.

1967 Moved to Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina with granddaddy (Garland S. Grant). Lived on Highway 301 north of Enfield. Daddy worked with Granddaddy at Georgia Pacific as a Saw Filer Trainee.

1 Mar 1967 Daddy hired on with IBM in Research Triangle Park. We moved to Durham County, North Carolina where we rented a house on Leesville Road from Tom and Florence Saunders.

1972 Purchased a mobile home and moved to near Hillsborough, Orange County, North Carolina and lived in B&W (Broadway & Ward) Trailer Park on Business U.S. 70.

1973 Moved a few miles away to Byrdsville Mobile Home Court (owned by Bill Byrd, later Willard Cates) off of Old North Carolina 10.

1975 Daddy was transferred to IBM in Columbia, South Carolina. We moved to Cedar Creek Trailer Park, in Eastover, Richland County, South Carolina on U.S. 76. Worst place I ever lived.

1976 Daddy transferred to IBM Raleigh, North Carolina. While he made arrangements to move trailer back to Byrdsville, he resided with friend Earl Queen in Woods Trailer Park on Lawrence Road near Hillsborough, NC. Mama and I stayed with Uncle Garland S. Grant Jr near Kinston, Lenoir County, NC in trailer off of Neuse Road on Southwest Creek. Stayed for about 3 months,

1976 Daddy, mama and me moved back to Byrdsville exactly where we had lived before.

1979 Daddy transferred to IBM Research Triangle Park, NC.

1981 Mama took a 1 year temporary job with IBM at Research Triangle Park working on the Assembly lines making Computer Monitors.

1988 Daddy and Mama purchase 6 acres of land in Prospect Hill, Caswell County, North Carolina off of John Oakley Road. Also purchase 4 acres of land in Topton, Cherokee County, North Carolina from Garland and Luella. Land was Luella's portion of her mother’s estate (Della Christmas WRIGHT George, died 1982). Della inherited the land from her father’s estate (Aaron Alexander WRIGHT, died 1907).

1989 Daddy and Mama and Granddaddy and Grandmama (Garland and Luella) all move to land in Caswell County. They sell mama and daddy’s old trailer to Willard Cates and move into grandmama and granddaddy’s newer trailer.

5 Oct 1990 Grandmother Luella GEORGE Grant dies in Florence County, South Carolina of Brain Cancer.

1991 Granddaddy moves out.

6 Mar 1992 Daddy takes an IBM Early Retirement with 25 years of service. Full retirement becomes active on 1 Mar 1997 with full benefits.

1992 Mama takes job at the Triangle Restaurant (at junction of NC 86 and NC 49 in Prospect Hill, NC) as a waitress.

12 Feb 1994 Daddy goes back with IBM in a 3 year Temporary position at Research Triangle Park working in the Parts warehouse.

1 Mar 1997 Daddy is fully retired from IBM.

!NOTES:Marvin was born out of wedlock to Hattie T. Grant (1878-1953) and "Lonso Patterson" who were not married to one another. Therefore he took his mother's name as was the law at the time. Lonso (aka Lon) is Carroll Alonso Patterson (1880-1922) who was a neighbor of the Grants at Grassy Branch. No documentary evidence has been found proving he is Marvin's father. We only had Marvin's word (and his mother's, who told him). However, DNA testing proves we are very closely related to this set of Pattersons, so it more or less confirms that Lon is Marvin's father.;

!NOTES:Marvin was mostly raised by his grandparents John Patton Grant and Darthula Evans Grant. His mother later married and had several children who were Marvin's half-siblings. His father also later married and had a daughter (Willa Bell) who was Marvin's half-sister. It is doubtful he and she ever met.;
