There was another old Ford, by name of George, who lived just below Tabernacle Church, on the road leading from Bear Swamp to Allen's Bridge, on Little Pee Dee ; he was related to those other Fords, at least collaterally ; he was a very energetic man and accumulated some property.; I never knew much of him; he was not a very old man when he died. I know that he left two sons, William and Nelson Ford, and know that he had three daughters, if no more, to wit; second wife of William Goodyear, Sr.- her name was Elizabeth ; also the wife of the late Benjamin Shooter-her name was Mary ; she was the mother of the Shooter family, a numerous family, and among them the gallant Colonel W. P. Shooter, who was killed in the severe battle of Spottsylvania Court House, in May, 1864. A family noted for its gallantry in the war. Colonel Wm. P. Shooter and two of his brothers (names not remembered) fell on the same day and in the same fight. Another daughter was the wife of Anthony Cribb, and became the mother of our W. T. Cribb and of Dempsy Cribb, Jr. ; the latter is dead. W. T. Cribb is a respectable and good citizen, a brave soldier in the struggle for the "Lost Cause," and so was his brother, George T. Cribb. He lost a leg in the contest, and yet lives. Of the sons of George Ford, William (familiarly called "Little Bill Ford"), as now remembered, married, first, a Miss Lupo; he raised some family by her, the names and number not now known to the writer. "Little Bill Ford" has been dead some years, and perhaps his Butler wife. Nelson Ford lived to an advanced age, eighty or more, has not been dead many years; he was a most excellent man and worthy citizen ; he married a Miss Lupo, and raised a family, how many is not known; one of his sons, named Hardy, lives near Nichols, and is a most excellent man and one of our best citizens. The Ford family, as a whole, were good people, and extend down two or three generations further than herein traced ; for the want of information and personal acquaintance, the writer can go no further. They did their duty fully in the war, and demonstrated to their country a patriotism and courage of which the present and coming generations may be proud. His family, who gave updates on the boy's condition through a Web site, said Tuesday that cultures showed evidence of a water-borne bacteria, and that doctors planned surgery to move him to a different type of heart-lung machine. "Ryan didn't make it through the surgery tonight and went to be with Jesus about midnight," they wrote Wednesday. "We certainly don't understand God's plan in this, but we trust Him." There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 tonight at Williams Funeral Home, 1600 S. Garland Ave. in Garland. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at The Heights Baptist Church, 201 W. Renner Road in Richardson, with burial at Garland Memorial Park. Born Nov. 24, 1990, Ryan attended Walnut Glen and Austin academies in Garland. He became involved in the youth group at church in the seventh grade, going on several mission trips. "He was a perfect kid. He never got in trouble, and he was such a good brother," his father, Scott Hall, said Wednesday. Ryan was a freshman at Garland High School, where he was in the International Baccalaureate program and in the top 5 percent of his class academically. He was on the swim team. His summer plans included a church mission trip, a family vacation to the Grand Canyon and driving lessons. But an odd rash turned into a fever and other symptoms that led to him to be hospitalized at Children's Medical Center Dallas, where doctors were working as late as last week to determine the exact nature of Ryan's lung disease. | 84897 | !OBIT:Atlanta Journal-Constitution - (May/31/2009) Frank Emmanuel Block, son of Hamilton and Evelyn Gale Johnson Block, died of interstitial lung disease on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. He was born May 15, 1925, in Asheville, NC, and moved to Atlanta as a young child. He attended Spring Street School and Marist School. He served as a radio operator in the army in France during World War II, and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was discharged with the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded three bronze stars. He attended the University of Georgia, the University of London, Vanderbilt University, and Georgia Tech, and he was graduated with honors from Yale University with a B.E. in mechanical engineering in 1948 and with a B.S. in industrial administration in 1949. He was a long-time member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and served a term as Senior Warden of the Vestry. He worked at the C & S Bank in Atlanta from 1949-1970, and finished his time there as Vice President in charge of trust investments. He then became the Senior Vice President in charge of investment strategy for the Girard Bank in Philadelphia, PA, and later the Vice President and Research Director for the Model Roland brokerage firm in New York City. He served as a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board in Stamford, CT from 1979-1985. His other memberships included the Financial Analysts Federation (President, 1969-1970; Graham and Dodd award, 1964; Distinguished Service Award, 1977) and the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA) (President, 1972-1973; C. Stewart Sheppard award, 1979). He was president of the Atlanta Society of Security Analysts from 1963-1964, Associate Editor of the Financial Analysts Journal from 1965-1979, Associate Editor of the CFA Digest from 1971-1979, and Editor of "Personal Trust Investment Management." After his retirement in 1986, he returned to Atlanta and wrote the section on analysis of financial statements for the Fifth Edition of Graham and Dodd's "Security Analysis," published by McGraw-Hill Book Co. in 1987. He was a member of the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, which his grandfather Frank E. Block had helped found. He was also a member of the Huff 'N Puffs men's singing group in Atlanta. He supported many charitable organizations including the High Museum of Art, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Atlanta History Center, and the Center for the Visually Impaired. A lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, he also loved dancing, bridge, electronic gadgetry of all kinds, genealogy, and his family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of forty-nine years, Anne Nimmons Burckhardt Block. He is survived by his children, Frank Emmanuel Block, Jr. and his wife Marcy, of Little Rock, Arkansas; and Jeannette Block DePoy and her husband Scott, of Atlanta. He has three grandchildren, Frank Emmanuel Block III, Richard Burgess Block, and John Burckhardt Block. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn Block Moore, of Bryan, Texas; a nephew, Thomas Overton Moore, III, of Houston, Texas; two nieces, Ellen Douglas Moore, of Bryan, Texas, and Sally Moore Gray, of Houston, Texas; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Boone was an active member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Pickens, S.C., for 28 years. He served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and on various committees and active missionary work. He was also a Mason and a Shriner. He won many awards such as the Dale Carnegie Hman Relations Award, Who’s Who in Business and Leadership, Top Sales Award with AFLAC, Lincoln National, Hartford and Blue Cross Blue Shield. He was self-employed as the founder of two businesses, Insurance Brokerage Service of Pickens, which has been established for over 30 years, and Appalachian Grading Service, also in Pickens, established in 1985 to become one of the leading grading competitors in the upstate. The exclusive Reserve on Lake Keowee is home to many fine examples of his work. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 41 years, Sonja Patterson Crisp; daughters and their husbands, Shona and Mark Dow, Heather and Wade Crips; grandchildren, Cody and Jayden Crisp, all of Pickens; and brother and his wife, Bill and Jennifer Elliott of Robbinsville.
