!NOTES:"William Lewis of Horry County South Carolina" by Mary Lewis Stevenson, 1960 - Provides evidence that William Lewis (d 1811 Horry) is a son of an older William Lewis of Albemarle Co., NC Bertie Precinct who married a daughter of Thomas Banks before 1736. This is proven in part by deeds for that William Lewis being in the possession of his son William of Horry. That at least shows they were closely connected.;

!NOTES:"A History of Marion County, South Carolina", W. W. Sellers, 1902. pp 480-483 covers the Lewis family. An extract from pp 480-481:
"Lewis.—This family were from Ireland, and settled in Virginia. A son of this family, named William, came to South Carolina before the Revolution; he married Miss Mourning Vampelt, a Hollander. Tradition informs us that her father and she came from Holland together, leaving his family in Holland; they came, as it seems, prospecting, and got down into South Carolina, where they met up with William Lewis, and soon an attachment (mutual) sprang up between the two young people, and they got married; whereupon old man Vampelt went back to Holland for his family, and was never afterwards heard of. William Lewis settled in Horry County ; they had and raised seven sons and two daughters ; the sons were William, James, Isaac, Hardy, Joel, Jonathan and Patrick; the girls were Polly and Zilpha. Of these, Polly married Averitt Nichols, of Columbus County, N. C, and was the mother of the late venerable Averitt Nichols, of Nichols, S. C. The other daughter, Zilpha, married William Gerald, of Horry. Of the sons, Hardy, Joel and Jonathan settled in Marion County Hardy on Little Pee Dee, below Gilchrist's Bridge, Joel and Jonathan higher up the river, on the south side, near where Miller's Church now stands ; and James at Allen's Bridge."

!NOTES:Maiden name Betsy Wilson per D/C of son Jackson, confirmed by D/C of dau Hannah;

!NOTES:Some online trees have her as a child of Silas Wilson (c1789) of Haywood Co., NC. That does not work. He did have a daughter named Elizabeth (c1829) (right name and age) but she was with him in 1850 in Haywood apparently unmarried whereas Elizabeth wife of Levi Deyton was already married a few years by this time and living in Yancey in 1850.

A good clue is William Wilson (c1830) living with the Deytons in 1860. He might be a younger brother of nephew of Elizabeth Wilson Deyton.
I found two potential matches for him in 1850 Yancey:
William (c1829) s/o Thomas & Hannah (doesn't work, had no one Elizabeth's age with him in 1840)
William (c1832) s/o James W.
William (c1833) s/o Samuel E. in Burke
I didn't check other counties;
